From the author:

The Jesuit Father Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski (1595-1640), most prominent Latin poet of the XVII century, renowned poetic theorist, Baroque lyric. He was the first famous Polish poet, first, before Sienkiewicz, similarly popular Polish author. Thanks to his use of Latin, all while he was still alive, he was able to create a resounding message throughout Europe and make famous Polish culture in a way that is likely never to be matched. He became known as Horatio par, i.e. at the level of Horace, the biggest poet of ancient times.
His European fame came from his first collection of poetry Lyricorum libri tres, and his expanded edition, Lyricorum libri IV, was so successful in Europe that it was released in 60 editions in different languages. The poetry of the ?Christian Horace? was used as an muse to countless imitators; Sarbiewski?s students included Adam Mickiewicz and Czeslaw Milosz. Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski, being a Nobel Prize Winner, was a ?nobelist? of his times - during his stay in Rome, he was crowned with a poetic arrangement by the contemporary Pope, Urban VIII.
In the immense fame, with which he was surrounded, Sarbiewski little mentioned of the impact of his familial territory that is Mazowsze. This is why I want to bring this issue into consideration, with a short biography of the Jesuit Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski, his ties with Mazowsze as well as how this was reflected in work.
